• Buffalo Police looking for suspect in theft and vandalism of laundromat

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo Police are looking for a suspect who did several thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to a laundromat in the 2000 block of South Park Avenue.
    He also stole coins from the laundromat.

    AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) – An Amherst man has pleaded guilty to stealing from a medical facility while he served as office manager there.
    William Gajewski, 55, of Amherst, pleaded guilty to second degree grand larceny, second degree forgery, and fourth degree criminal tax fraud.
    Gajewski admitted to stealing $318,000 from Buffalo Rheumatology and Medicine in Orchard Park while he served as office manager there from March 1, 2015 to Dec. 31, 2016.

    TOWN OF NIAGARA, N.Y. (WIVB) – The source of the pervasive, rancid smell in the Town of Niagara has been identified.
    The New York State DEC said Friday that the Allied Waste Landfill is the cause of the sulfur and garbage-type odor following an investigation.   • Crews searching for missing member of Buffalo Police Underwater Recovery Team

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo Police, the U.S. Coast Guard, and other agencies are conducting a search for a member of the Buffalo Police Underwater Recovery Team.
    “Today our Underwater Rescue Team was conducting routine training when at approximately 10 to 1:00 this afternoon one of the divers went missing,” Buffalo Police Lt.     ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (WIVB) — There’s bad news for Breaking Bad fans.
    The owners of the house from the hit series are putting up a six-foot fence to keep fans away.
    The house of TV character Walter White is located in Albuquerque and is a tourist attraction.
    Fans have been parking in the driveway for pictures, and even throwing pizzas on the roof to reenact a popular scene.

  • Children hospitalized after 4-vehicle crash

    AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) — Amherst police are investigating a four-vehicle crash that happened Friday morning.
    The incident happened around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Main St. and Eggert Rd.
    One of the vehicles had a 13-year-old and a five-year-old in it. They were both taken to Women & Children’s Hospital with head and back injuries.

  • Human remains found in North Collins sent to NYC for analysis

    NORTH COLLINS, N.Y. (WIVB) — Human remains found in North Collins back in June have been sent to New York City.
    The skeletal remains were found by two hikers near Marion J. Fricano Town Park in North Collins.
    An Erie County Sheriff’s deputy went to the scene and verified that contents found in a boot above ground were part of a human skeleton.
    It’s estimated that the body had been buried anywhere from 15-30 years ago.

  • State Police looking to identify burglary suspects

    NORTH COLLINS, N.Y. (WIVB) — New York State Police are looking to identify two people suspected of commercial burglaries in the North Collins area.
    Surveillance video captured the suspects breaking into a business on the night of September 14, Troopers say.
    They are described as white males who could be in their late teens or early twenties.
    Troopers say they were wearing outdoor gear to try and hide their faces.

    Donald Murphy, 90, left Crestwood Court in the Town of Wheatfield on foot at 4 a.m. Friday.

    Several members of the South Park High School football team went down on one knee during the national anthem before their game against Lake Shore.
    Players have been taking a knee to protest racial injustice and police brutality.

  • Man killed in September shooting was wanted by police

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A man who was killed in a double shooting last month on Buffalo’s west side had been wanted by police.
    Deion Brown, 23, died near Parkdale and Potomac avenues on September 27.
    A week earlier, News 4 reported that he was wanted by police on a parole violation.
    A 32-year-old woman was also shot, along with Brown, last month. She’s still in critical condition.
    As of Friday morning, Buffalo police have not made an arrest in the shooting.

    NEW YORK (AP) — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo now plans to give away all of the campaign contributions he’s collected from disgraced Hollywood executive Harvey Weinstein.

  • California wildfires bring record 31 deaths

    (AP) – Northern California’s wildfires have now killed 31 people — making this the deadliest week of wildfires in state history.
    Sonoma County Sheriff Robert Giordano said Thursday night that two more people have been confirmed dead there. That raises the statewide death total from 29 to 31.
    The Oakland Hills fire of 1991 killed 29 people by itself.

    MIAMI — Hurricane Ophelia strengthened to a Category 2 storm, swirling far from land in the eastern Atlantic, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center’s (NHC) latest advisory.
    The NHC says Ophelia is barely moving and is continuing to strengthening, now boasting top sustained winds of 100 mph.
