  • Suspect in Grand Island hit and run case pleads guilty

    GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) – The suspect in June’s hit and run accident that left a woman seriously injured has pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury.
    Edward J. Kuebler III, 27, of Tonawanda, also waived his right to appeal.
    Kuebler was charged with striking Dana Papaj, 53, of Grand Island, in June as she was walking her dog on East River Road.

  • Police: Man tries to steal laptops, strikes principal at Buffalo school

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Jamestown man was arrested after Buffalo police say he tried to steal laptops and struck a school principal.
    According to police, John Bish, 51, tried to steal the computers from a Buffalo Public School on the 100 block of Elk St.
    The school’s principal confronted him, but was then stricken by Bish, according to police.
    When police arrested Bish, they charged him with Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Assault and Harassment.

    PALMDALE, Calif. (WIVB) — A woman in California who thought she was being pulled over for DWI ended up getting engaged.
    The Palmdale Sheriff’s Department pulled her over.

  • Hundreds of people to be re-buried in Amherst ceremony

    AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) — The remains of 372 people buried in a “poorhouse” cemetery will be re-buried in a special ceremony in Amherst.
    For the past nine years, UB anthropologists have studied those remains.
    They had been in graves at the old Erie County Poorhouse. Those people were buried in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
    The ceremony takes place Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at the university’s Newman Center.
