• White House requests $29B disaster aid package

    (AP) – The White House has asked Congress for $29 billion in disaster aid to cover ongoing hurricane relief and recovery efforts and to pay federal flood insurance claims.
    The request comes as the government is spending almost $200 million a day for emergency hurricane response and faces a surge in flood claims for federally insured homes and businesses slammed by hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.

    CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — Police say a central Wyoming man they arrested for public intoxication claimed he had traveled back in time to warn of an alien invasion.

    BUFFALO,NY (WIVB)  The Buffalo Sabres have acquired defenseman Zach Redmond from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Nicolas Deslauriers.  Redmond will report to the Rochester Americans.
    Redmond split time between Montreal and the AHL’s St John’s Ice Caps last season.  He had 5 assists in 16 games with the Canadiens and 18 points in 26 games with St John’s.  He was originally drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the seventh round of the 2008 draft.

    DUNKIRK, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Dunkirk woman was hit by a vehicle in a parking lot.
    The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office says Margaret Steffan, 68, walked on the pedestrian crosswalk at the Tops store on Vineyard Dr. in Dunkirk.
    While doing so, authorities say another Dunkirk resident, Corinne Crino, 84, was driving in the parking lot.
    The two collided and Steffan was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital for her injuries.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man was sentenced to nine months in prison for attempting to assault an NFTA officer.
    Devere Thomas, 22, refused to comply with an NFTA officer’s commands when he was pulled over near Main and W. Utica streets back in February.

  • Two people found shot dead in backyard of Fairport home

    FAIRPORT, N.Y. (WROC-TV) — Two people have been found shot dead in the backyard of their home on Williamsburg Drive in Fairport on Wednesday.
    Police say a neighbor called 911 around 5:50 a.m. when they heard gunshots.
    The two victims have not been identified.
    Investigators are currently interviewing witnesses in the neighborhood. A motive is unclear at this time. There are currently no suspects in custody.

    LAS VEGAS (AP) — Officials say Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock had been stockpiling guns since 1982 and bought 33 firearms in the last year.
    Jill Snyder, the special agent in charge at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, tells “CBS This Morning” on Wednesday that Paddock purchased 33 firearms, mostly rifles, between October 2016 and Sept. 28, three days before he opened fire on a concert crowd.
