    OLCOTT, N.Y. (WIVB) – Homeowners along the Lake Ontario shoreline are still dealing with flooded yards and basements.
    They’ve been dealing with the same issues for weeks.
    Water levels reached record highs along the Lake Ontario shoreline this May.

  • Buffalo City Council votes to make city parks “smoke free”

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The City of Buffalo’s parks will now be smoke-free, following a unanimous vote by Buffalo’s Common Council Tuesday.
    The ordinance bans the use of any form of tobacco in Buffalo’s public parks, including e-cigarettes. Smoking will be allowed, but only in certain designated areas.
    The measure includes the Frederick Law Olmstead park system.

  • Deputy rescues owl from Grand Island soccer net

    GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) — A deputy with the Erie County Sheriff’s office rescued an owl from a soccer net in Grand Island Tuesday morning.
    Deputy Kopacz went to Veteran’s Park around 11:30 a.m., where the owl was found entangled in the net.
    Kopacz then freed the bird and checked it over before it flew away.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Buffalo Police Department says bullets were fired into the bedroom of a sleeping baby Tuesday morning.
    Two people were arrested after shots were fired through the back of a house early in the day on Monroe St.

    ALBION, N.Y. (WIVB) — Officials in Orleans County say a mail scam seen in other parts of the country has been spotted in the area.
    The Orleans County Major Felony Crime Task Force is working with the District Attorney’s office to investigate the scam.

  • Chick-fil-A files paperwork to open Cheektowaga location

    CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Chick-fil-A has filed paperwork to open a location in Cheektowaga.
    Last week, the restaurant chain announced that they are expanding into the areas of Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Plattsburgh.
    The restaurants will open in either 2018 or 2019.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Buffalo Sabres signed goalie Robin Lehner to a new one-year contract.
    The contract is worth $4 million.
    Lehner was picked by the Ottawa Senators in the second round of the 2009 NHL Draft.
    The Sweden native ranks third in the NHL in terms of saves, with 1,758.

    LACKAWANNA, N.Y. (WIVB) – A three-year-old child, barefoot and only wearing a diaper, was found walking in the street in Lackawanna Monday.
