    ELMA, N.Y. (WIVB) — The state’s Department of Environmental Conservation has leveled charges against the teen who is accused of beating a snapping turtle to death in Elma.
    The teen, who is 16 and from Elma, is charged with two violations of state’s Environmental Conservation Law.

    NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – New York State Parks Police have recovered a body from Whirlpool State Park.
    The body was taken to the Erie County Medical Examiner’s office.
    Parks Police received a call from a hiker reporting a body floating in the rapids of the Lower Niagara River just above the Whirlpool in Niagara Falls around 11 a.m. Friday.

    Teen charged in snapping turtle beating
    ELMA, N.Y. (WIVB) – A 16-year-old Elma male has been charged in the attack of a snapping turtle that has been circulated around social media.
    The teen has been charged by the New York State DEC with illegally pursuing wildlife and attempting to take wildlife during a closed season.
    Both charges are violations of the state’s Environmental Conservation Law and carry a potential fine of up to $250 or up to 15 days in jail.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man who stabbed two people in a Kensington Ave. apartment will spend 16 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to two counts of Attempted Murder.
    Dennis Howard, 26, stabbed two people, a man and a woman, in an apartment this past October. The stabbings occurred after the female victim came home and found her apartment burglarized.
    After the woman called a neighbor to come help check for intruders, Howard repeatedly stabbed the neighbor in the throat.

    TAUNTON, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts woman who sent her boyfriend a barrage of text messages encouraging him to kill himself has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
    A juvenile court judge found that Michelle Carter caused the death of Conrad Roy III. Carter cried as the judge explained his reasoning Friday.

    NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – A body recovered from Lake Ontario in the village of Youngstown two weeks ago has been positively identified as Kirk R. Jones of Springville, Fla.
    An investigation revealed that Jones, who most recently lived in Florida, was in the Niagara Falls area on April 19 and may have been attempting a stunt by going over Niagara Falls in a large inflatable ball.
    The attempted stunt was unsuccessful and resulted in Jones’ death.

    CHRISTIANA, Tenn. (AP) —Authorities say they have captured two escaped inmates wanted in the slayings of two Georgia prison guards.
    GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles says 43-year-old Donnie Russell Rowe and 24-year-old Ricky Dubose were apprehended Thursday in Christiana, Tennessee.
