    Taste of Country: WYRK’s annual summer concert brings some country music heavyweights to town at Coca-Cola Field, including Rascal Flatts, Justin Moore, Randy Houser, and Michael Ray, plus local performer Eric Van Houten. Gates are at 4:30 p.m., concert begins at 6 p.m. at 275 Washington Street. Tickets are $29 and can be purchased here.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- 45-year-old Ellen Volpe was making her usual commute Thursday morning, from her home in Rochester to Buffalo.
    Volpe worked as a professor at UB’s School of Nursing. She was hired in 2013 by Dean Marsha Lewis.
    Lewis called Volpe one of the university’s “rising stars.”

    Local woman battles Leukemia, depends on bone marrow donation
    DEPEW, N.Y. (WIVB)- Busy mom and grandma Nora Devero of Depew had no idea her fatigue in January was a sign of a serious disease; Leukemia.
    In addition to lots of medicine and chemotherapy, Nora needs a bone marrow transplant to survive.
    “I just think about my family and how I want to see everybody grow up,” Nora said.
    Nora Devero and her husband John.But because her form of Leukemia is a rare one, matching has been a challenge.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — McKinley High School has been declared safe after somebody called the school Friday afternoon claiming that people had guns.
    Police conducted a full search of the area and found nothing unusual, a Buffalo School District spokesperson said Friday.
    Additionally, it’s believed that the call may have originated inside of the building and is considered to be a false report. An investigation into the call is also underway.

    BALTIMORE, Md. — Mibelas birth control pills have been recalled by Lupin Pharmaceuticals because the pills were packaged in the wrong order, which may result in an unintended pregnancy.

    Man accused of drunkenly hitting 3 people with vehicle appears in court
    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A man accused of driving drunk and hitting three people on New Year’s Day reappeared in court Friday.
    Abdikadir Jaffar, 31, is facing several charges, including aggravated vehicular assault.
    Authorities say Jaffar was driving drunk when he hit a pole and drove up on a curb, seriously hurting three pedestrians. This happened on Richmond Ave. in Buffalo.
    Previously, Jaffar pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charges.

    Slow Roll expanding outside of Buffalo starting Friday
    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Slow Roll is expanding outside of Buffalo, and the first new kind of ride starts Friday night.
    Typically, the Slow Roll allows bicyclists to ride together on Monday nights in Buffalo during Spring and Summer.
    Friday night’s ride will take place in the City of Tonawanda, and is called the Tonawanda Pedal Party.
    The ride, which will be hosted by the Eldredge Bicycle Club, will start at 17 Broad St. at 7 p.m.

    Driver could face charges after Mayville crash
    MAYVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) — A driver could face charges after a vehicle crash in Chautauqua County.
    On Thursday, around 2 p.m., the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office says Stockton resident James Gelencser, 51, crashed on E. Chautauqua St. in Mayville.
    According to authorities, the vehicle “left the roadway for no apparent reason” and went roughly 75 yards through NYS Department of Transportation facility’s front lawn. After that, the vehicle hit a tree head-on.

    The Food Bank of Western New York partners with schools that have the greatest need. Many of the students at these schools get free or reduced lunch.

    A vehicle with four people in it was stopped by an Erie County Sheriff’s deputy on South State Parkway just before 7:30 p.m. Thursday night.
    The deputy investigated the driver, Shane Corter, 31, and it turned out that he was wanted by the Erie County Sheriff’s office related to a previous narcotics investigation.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Big changes are coming to Erie County in the fight against the opioid epidemic.
    The County Legislature has approved requests from the Health Department to continue combating drug addiction in our area.
    Through a $1 million investment, the county will increase and improve Narcan distribution, and additional resources will be added to the Medical Examiner’s office.
    An additional $500,000 will be designated for not-for-profits and private sector organizations

    Man charged with attempted murder after Sunday shooting
    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo police arrested a man on Thursday morning that they say is connected to a Sunday evening shooting.
    Tonawanda resident Warren Meredith, 24, was charged with attempted murder and assault after an incident at Carlton and Rose streets.
    A 35-year-old Buffalo man had been shot around 7:15 p.m. that night.
    Meredith was arrested when Buffalo SWAT and homicide detectives executed a search warrant on Highland Ave. in Tonawanda.
