    The recognition comes after a simple drive home May 10, which ended up saving a stranger’s home and possibly his life.

    Niagara County will receive $300,000 from EPA for brownfield cleanup
    NIAGARA COUNTY, N.Y. (WIVB) – Niagara County will receive  $300,000 total in grant funding from the Environmental Protection Agency to help redevelop vacant and unused brownfield properties.
    The county will receive $200,000 to help conduct environmental site assessments for hazardous substances and $100,000 for assessments for petroleum contamination.
    Niagara County is one of 172 communities across the country selected to receive brownfield revitalization funding.

    Former Orleans County teacher sentenced on child pornography charges
    ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WIVB) – A former Orleans County teacher has been sentenced on child pornography charges.
    Steven Choi, 42, of Rochester, was sentenced to time served and 15 years of supervised release in U.S. District Court.
    According to U.S. Attorney Tiffany H. Lee, who handled the case, the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force identified the defendant accessing child pornography online. A forensic examination of that computer recovered sexually explicit photos of prepubescent girls.

    NIAGARA COUNTY, N.Y. (WIVB) – Four people were arrested on separate welfare fraud charges over the past week in Niagara County, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department announced Wednesday.
    All four defendants were released on appearance tickets.

    LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police are investigating after someone spray painted a racial slur on the front gate of LeBron James’ home in Los Angeles on the eve of the NBA Finals.

    Man hospitalized after crash at LaSalle and Orleans
    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A man was hospitalized following a vehicle crash Wednesday morning in Buffalo.
    Police in the city say a vehicle was traveling east on LaSalle Ave. when it struck a Jeep that was going north on Orleans St.
    The driver of the Jeep, who was identified as a 25-year-old man, was taken to ECMC with non-life threatening injuries.

    Sex offender charged with failing to report address change
    HOLLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Level 2 sex offender was charged with failing to report his address change last week.
    The Erie County Sheriff’s office arrested Miguel Dejesus on May 23.
    Dejesus faces a felony charge that stems from his February eviction in Holland. Authorities say he never reported his address change after that.
    Dejesus was taken to the Erie County Holding Center and was released following his arraignment.

    ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 225-mile journey on the Erie Canal is coming to an end.
    The first set of Genesee Brewery’s new beer tanks shipped into Monroe County Tuesday.
    The fermentation tanks glided through the Village of Fairport and under the historic lift bridge on the canal.
    The giant tanks are part of the $49 million expansion at the Rochester brewery.
    A total of 12 new tanks will go to the brewery.
    Each 60-foot fermentation tank holds 2,000 barrels of beer.

    UKRAINE (WIVB) — Nearby cars and buildings were damaged when a water main exploded in Ukraine, and it was caught on camera.
    When the main exploded, the ground was torn and rocks and debris were sent into the air, leaving a 64-foot hole in the ground.

    NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Niagara Falls Common Council approved $35,000 for a June 15 stunt over Niagara Falls that will feature the wife of famed Niagara Falls tightrope-walker Nik Wallenda.
    Erendira Wallenda, an acrobat, plans to dangle by her teeth from a helicopter over the falls on June 15, the five-year anniversary of Nik’s stunt.

    Three pedestrians struck in four car accident in town of Niagara
    TOWN OF NIAGARA, N.Y. (WIVB) – Three pedestrians were struck in a four-vehicle accident on Porter Road Tuesday evening.
    The accident occurred around 5 p.m. in the 7900 block of Porter Road.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Chipotle Mexican Grill has identified the restaurants affected by a payment card security incident that the chain reported April 25.
    An investigation into the incident found that malware designed to access payment data from cards used on point-of-sale (POS) systems at some Chipotle locations between March 24 and April 18. The malware searched for track data read from the magnetic stripe on a payment card as it was swiped through the device.
