    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- Common Council President Rev. Darius Pridgen kicked off the first issue of the ‘Unsolved Murders Newsletter’ this week.
    The online and print newsletter aims to keep homicide victims’ names alive in the community, and also keep focus on unsolved cases.
    Monday, the website officially went public. Pridgen said he’s already received 23 submissions.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Buffalo Police Underwater Recovery Team pulled a body from the Niagara River early this morning.
    Authorities responded to a call of a man floating near Unity Island around 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. The URT pulled the body from the river near the International Railroad Bridge a short time later.

    Buffalo woman pleads guilty to stabbing child’s father
    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A 19-year-old Buffalo woman has pleaded guilty to stabbing the father of her child in the back following an argument, leading to his death.
    Kearra Bailey pleaded guilty to first degree manslaughter before State Supreme Court Justice Christopher J, Burns.
    She faces up to 25 years in prison when she is sentenced Aug. 15.
    Bailey stabbed 19-year-old Shaundez Davis, the father of her one-year-old daughter, during an argument in her Broadway Street home in Nov. 2016.

    Teen accused of killing toddler indicted
    MARILLA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Sources tell News 4 that a teenager will be arraigned on an indictment accusing him of killing a toddler.
    Devon VanDerWege, 17, will be arraigned in court on Wednesday afternoon, sources say.
    He is charged with beating a 2-year-old he was watching in March while the boy’s parents went to work.
    At the time, VanDerWege was living in the family’s trailer.

    CARLTON, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Kent man charged with hitting an eight-year-old girl on a bicycle and fleeing the scene has been sentenced.
    Jeffrey P. Vannostrand, 52, of Water Street was sentenced to two years in jail Tuesday in Orleans County Court. He will be required to have an ignition interlock on his vehicle for a year after he is released from prison.

    BPD: Claim made by student who said she was followed unfounded
    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Police in Buffalo say a claim made by a student that a driver followed her to school was unfounded.
    The student said that on Monday, she was followed to School #93 by a white man, between 40 and 50 years old, in a black truck.
    The driver who was the subject of the complaint was identified later in the day.
    Buffalo school officials are asking parents to talk with their kids about how to avoid strangers.
