    WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WIVB)-  A report of a shoplifter at the Tops on Orchard Park Rd. in West Seneca took a turn for the worst after the suspect fled from police and ran into Cazenovia Creek.
    West Seneca Police say they began chasing Dana Smith of Cheektowaga after Tops called accusing her of shoplifting.
    She ran to the Wegmans parking lot nearby and then over to Caz Creek when police were closing in on her. Officers warned Smith not to go into the water but she did and was knocked

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- Tareq Zabadane and Ayla Abyad are among the five million Syrians who have left their home because of the civil war.
    Rebel groups have been battling the Assad regime for control of the region since 2011. According to the United Nations, 400,000 Syrians have been killed since the fighting started.
    Tareq, who is 17-years-old and a student at Lafayette High School, came to Buffalo with his mother and two brothers seven months ago.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Northern Access Pipeline will not move forward.
    National Fuel wanted to run a 97 mile pipeline through Cattaraugus, Allegany and Erie counties.
    It has federal approval but hundreds of people voiced concerns at three DEC public hearings over the past few months.
    Now the DEC has denied water quality certificates needed to move forward with the pipeline.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — More than 200 girls from 10 Buffalo and Lackawanna Public Schools took a swing at a new sport Saturday at University at Buffalo.
    It was 11th annual Girls in Sports event. The goal is to encourage young ladies to participate in sports and meet a role model.

    Cyclists eager to take on SkyRide as route is announced
    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The route is laid out and the riders are ready to go for the 2017 SkyRide.
    About 3,00 cyclists are expected to check out the view from above during the 4th annual ride.
    This year’s ride starts at Lasalle Park and takes bikers over the Skyway and around the Outer Harbor.

    Changes headed to WNY following state budget agreement
    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The battle to bring ridesharing to Western New York is now over. Expanding Uber and Lyft to the rest of New York state was approved as part of the state budget.
