  BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A local heroin dealer has been sentenced to six years in jail.
  Buffalo resident Joell Brown, 38, was sentenced to six years in jail for selling the drug.
  Back in September, he pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance, but his sentencing was adjourned so that he could have to time to recover from a gunshot wound.

• Man admits to killing mother in Buffalo

  BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Rochester man has admitted to killing his mother in Buffalo.
  Froilan Torres, 42, pleaded guilty to manslaughter after beating Gloria Rivera, 57, to death.
  The incident occurred on October 9 at Rivera’s South Park Ave. home.
  Rivera was taken to a local hospital, where she died soon after arriving.
  Torres will be sentenced on May 25. He faces 25 years in prison.

  CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB)- A three-bedroom home on Whitney Place in Cheektowaga was taken off the market Wednesday, following a homicide there Monday night.

  BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A violent attack allegedly took place at the Buffalo Psychiatric Center.
  A state lawmaker says three employees were assaulted at the center on March 25. News 4 received documents backing up his claims.

  CANTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) – An unlikely culprit was responsible for a disturbance at a New York prison.
  The New York DEC says a raccoon got into the St. Lawrence County Correctional facility up on the Canadian border, perched itself on a gate and wouldn’t leave.
  They had to use a catch pole to snatch it and pull it down.

  BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A forecast of rain has led the Buffalo Bisons to postpone their season opener, as well as another game.
  Opening day, which was supposed to be Thursday, has been moved to Saturday, April 8 at 1:05 p.m. During that day, the Bisons will play Scranton/WB.

  ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The state Department of Environmental Conservation says New York hunters killed about 214,000 deer in 2016, up about 5 percent from 2015.
  That includes an estimated 109,000 adult bucks — a 10 percent increase from 2015 — and 105,000 antlerless deer.
