    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Little to no ice has covered Lake Erie this winter, and the cause is mild weather conditions. Because of this, the Lake Erie-Niagara River Ice Boom will soon be removed.

    Police looking for suspect in Williamsville bank robbery
    WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) — Amherst police are investigating a Monday bank robbery.
    The robbery occurred at a KeyBank branch at 5200 Main St. in Williamsville around 1 p.m.
    Police say a white man entered the bank, gave the teller a note demanding money, and then left the bank on foot with cash. He may have got into an “older dark-colored SUV” before leaving the scene in an unknown direction, police say.

    ALABAMA, N.Y. (WIVB) — One person died in a vehicle crash in the Town of Alabama Monday afternoon.
    The one-car crash occurred on Route 77 around 1:50 p.m.
    New York State Police say the vehicle left the roadway when the driver had a medical condition.
    There were four passengers in the vehicle, and one in the rear section was killed.
    Three passengers were taken to a Rochester hospital.

    NEW YORK (AP) – More than 70,000 chickens have been slaughtered at a Tennessee chicken farm due to a bird flu outbreak, and 30 other farms within a six-mile radius are being quarantined.

    ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Buffalo Bills announced the release of five players on Monday.
    TE Gerald Christian, K Dan Carpenter, CB Nickell Robey-Coleman, LS Garrison Sanborn and S Phillip Thomas were let go by the team.
    Sanborn spent the last eight seasons with the Bills, Robey-Coleman signed with the Bills in 2013 as an undrafted rookie and Carpenter spent the last four seasons with the Bills.

    BATAVIA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Months after a shooting in Batavia, a man has been found and charged with attempted murder.
    On Dec. 2, Batavia police say Jeremy Armstrong, 26, shot someone several times, at close range, on Jackson St.
    The victim lived and was taken to a local hospital. The victim was familiar with Armstrong, police say.

    CLARENCE, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Hamburg man was accused of DWI after a crash on Lapp Rd. in Clarence.
    A passerby noticed a vehicle that had struck a tree around 3:15 a.m. Monday. The driver, Brendan Fogarty, 25, was unresponsive.
    Deputies with the Erie County Sheriff’s office went to the scene and interviewed Fogarty.

    Niagara County Auxiliary Police unit dissolves
    LEWISTON, N.Y. (WIVB) — A public safety resource in Niagara County will no longer be available. The county dissolved the auxiliary police after failed efforts to compromise with volunteers about carrying firearms.
    The unit has been around for several years. All members of the unit are volunteers. There’s about 12 to 25 volunteers with one duty, directing traffic during events.
