    Prison escapee enabler could be paroled as early as May
    ALBANY, NY (WIVB) – Joyce Mitchell, the woman convicted of helping two prisoners escape a New York prison, could be released as soon as May 16.
    Mitchell has been granted a state hearing next week and a parole board hearing could follow.
    She was the prison seamstress who helped inmates David Sweat and Richard Matt escape from the Clinton Correctional Facility.
    Matt was shot and killed, Sweat was shot and captured.

    Teen boy dead after logging accident in Cattaraugus County
    CONEWANGO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 14-year-old Amish boy is dead following a logging accident in Cattaraugus County.
    Dispatchers received a 911 call for a logging accident around 9 a.m. Friday on Northeast Road in the Town of Conewango. When they arrived at the scene the 14-year-old boy was pronounced dead.
    It is unclear how the accident happened. The boy’s name has not been released.

    SALAMANCA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Salamanca mother was sentenced for the death of her 1-year-old daughter Friday afternoon.

    BUFFALO, NY (WIVB)  – For the second day in a row law enforcement agencies banded together to snare illegal drugs and guns.
    The Erie County Sheriff’s department reports that a raid on two homes on Thatcher Avenue in Buffalo netted five 5-gallon buckets of marijuana, about 100 pounds.  Two loaded handguns and a large scale were seized as well.

    BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) –  Police want to know ho is responsible for a string of copper thefts.

    CHERRY CREEK, NY (WIVB) – Voters in the Village of Cherry Creek have spoken.
    They’ve voted to dissolve the village – by about a 2-to-1 margin.
    With absentee ballots still being counted the vote is 70 Yes and 32 No.
    Fewer than 500 people live in the Chautauqua County village which has been separate from the Town of Cherry Creek.

    TOWN OF POMFRET (WIVB) –  Firefighters in the Southern Tier fought massive flames overnight that severely damaged two homes near Cassadaga Lake.
    Seven crews were called in to fight the flames on Glasgow Road.   A total of four structures, including two homes were blackened by the flames.
