    TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) —We’ve all heard that no two snowflakes are alike and if you’ve ever been outside in a snow storm, you may have noticed they are all unique in shape and size.
    Chief Meteorologist Todd Santos says, “There are about 35 different types of snowflakes, from the flakes that are a stereotypical flake that we call a dendrite. Or the type that are little tubes and columns. Some of them are little tiny ice pellets, some of them are clumps of other flakes.&rdq

    Riverside fire under investigation
    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A fire broke out at a home on Mayer Avenue in Buffalo Saturday night.
    Several fire crews rushed to the scene just before 8 p.m.
    A News 4 photographer captured smoke coming from the second floor of a home.
    Officials tell News 4 the fire caused $75,000 in damage to the building, and $30,000 of damage to the contents of the home.
    No one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo Police are investigating a shooting in the 800 block of Fillmore Avenue in the city.
    Police say the shooting happened just after 9 p.m. Saturday night.
    According to police a man was shot. News 4 has learned his injuries appear to be serious.

    Hamburg veteran honored with Purple Heart medal
    HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) — A veteran from Hamburg received a military honor Saturday for being hurt while serving his country.
    Sergeant James Cutting earned the Purple Heart for wounds he received during the conflict in Afghanistan over five years ago.
    A grenade hit Sergeant Cutting’s vehicle and he suffered a traumatic brain injury.
    He recovered enough to serve for another three years with the military. Cutting says he is grateful for the recognition and says he was not alone.
