    Driver in deadly drag race sentenced
    COLDEN, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 20-year-old man is going to prison for a deadly drag race in Colden.
    A judge sentenced 20-year-old Kody Schroeder to spend two to seven years behind bars. He was racing another driver when his vehicle slammed into a pickup truck that was turning into a driveway.
    One of his passengers, Chauncey Kloiber, 28, was killed. Another passenger was seriously hurt.
    Authorities also charged the driver of the other car that was racing.

    The vehicle is between Exits 6 and 7. No one was injured.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A wrong turn led to the arrests of two people at the Peace Bridge.
    U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers inspected a vehicle after its turn onto the bridge. Inside of it, officers say they found a stolen, loaded handgun with the serial number scratched off, as well as baggies of suspected crack cocaine and marijuana. Another baggie of marijuana was located in an occupant’s purse, officers say.

    Former Batavia teacher sentenced following sex abuse investigation
    BATAVIA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A former teacher at Batavia Middle School was sentenced to 60 days in jail after authorities say he received sexually explicit photos from a student.
    Anthony Antinore, 51, pleaded guilty to attempting to disseminate indecent material to a minor in September.
    Before pleading guilty to that, he was originally charged with a felony.

    13-year-old boy dies after being pulled from snow bank
    GREENWICH, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A boy has died after he and another boy were pulled from a snow bank in Washington County.
    Officials have identified the victim as 13-year-old Joshua J. Demarast, a seventh-grade student from eastern New York.
    Police received a call for two missing boys around 5 p.m. Tuesday. According to Greenwich-Cambridge Police Chief George Bell, the boys were playing in a snow bank while a Department of Public Works truck was plowing around the same time.

    TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo came to Tonawanda on Wednesday morning to announce multi-million dollar investments in local GM plants.
    In total, $334 million will be invested in plants in Tonawanda, Lockport and Rochester.

    Alden, N.Y. (WIVB) — More than 1100 customers of New York State Electric and Gas in the Village of Alden are waking up on a chilly Wednesday morning without electricity.
    NYSEG reports on its website that about 1010 customers in the Village, and another 110 in the Town of Alden lost service, and should have it restored by 8:00 a.m.

    CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB)– Cheektowaga Police warn there may be a more potent batch of heroin being sold on the streets. Two men died of overdoses in two days over the weekend.
    Over the last few months the number of people dying of opioid overdoses has decreased in Erie County.

    (AP) — A publicist says Alan Thicke, who played the likable father on the sitcom “Growing Pains,” has died at age 69.
    Carleen Donovan, who is a publicist for Thicke’s son, singer Robin Thicke, says the actor died from a heart attack on Tuesday in Los Angeles. She had no further details.

    New outbreak in mumps cases reaches a 10-year high in U.S.
    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Health officials are coping with the worst outbreak of the mumps in a decade, and colleges, including the SUNY campuses at Geneseo and New Paltz have been hardest hit.
    According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, there are more than 2,800 cases of the mumps in 45 states and Washington D.C.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — More than 11,000 people with developmental disabilities across the state are on a waiting list for housing. Back in September a lawsuit was filed on behalf of the more than 2,000 people who are faced with that predicament here in Western New York.
