    “It will be a major benefit to veterans in our community,” said Mayor Byron Brown.

    CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) –  Cheektowaga police say they rounded up eight women during a prostitution sting at a local hotel last Thursday.
    Three of the women claimed to be sisters.
    All those arrested were from Buffalo and Tonawanda and ranged in age from 20 to 38 years old.
    Two additional people were arrested for suspicion of transporting prostitutes, impersonation, outstanding warrants and drug possession.

    BUFFALO, NY  (WIVB) — Police are investigating after a body was found near the Black Rock Channel Monday afternoon.
    The body has been identified as a deceased male. Rescue crews recovered the body just after 2 p.m.
    An autopsy will be scheduled to determine a cause of death.

    Panasonic inks deal with SolarCity for Buffalo plant
    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)   Panasonic is partnering with Tesla in a deal that would have the tech giant work on solar cells and modules for SolarCity.
    Tesla announced that a letter of intent has been inked signaling production to begin in Summer 2017.  This will allow Panasonic to produce solar battery, photovoltaic cells, at the Buffalo plant.
    The solar panels to be made in Buffalo will work with these energy storage products in residential and commercial properties.

    Arrest made in Phyllis Avenue shooting
    BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) — Buffalo Police have made an arrest in a shooting in the Kensington area that left a man critically injured.
    Police have charged a 19-year old Buffalo man in the Sunday morning shooting on Phyllis Avenue near Eggert Road.
    Andre Vernon is charged with assault.
    Police have not named the 29-year old victim, who is being treated at the Erie County Medical Center.

    Gabriele Ballowe is charged with manslaughter.
    Prosecutors say she was in an SUV that hit Barry Moss in Evans in December 2013. She’s also charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
    Ballowe was indicted in June for the crash. She was not indicted in 2014 but the DA’s office reported new evidence in the case, including conflicting statemen

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Unionized Buffalo teachers could be working under terms of a contract soon, for the first time in 12 years.
    Sunday night, the Buffalo Teachers Federation and city school district reached a tentative agreement on a labor deal.
    School superintendent, Kriner Cash, took part in negotiations, which the union credits with helping to reach an agreement.
    Terms have not been revealed, but we expect to learn those when the board of education meets late Monday afternoon to vote

    Summer Warmth Friday…Winter Snow by Sunday
    Beautiful and unseasonably warm weather continues through the end of the week. After another clear & tranquil night with temperatures in the low-40s, it will almost feel like Summer Friday with near record warmth as the high temperature tops off near 70.  The present record high for Buffalo is 74 set in 1958.   Expect an increasing southerly breeze in the afternoon.
