    WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Christine Harris and her daughters Nakiya and Lacey are like any other loving family, with one big difference.
    “I saw a big need in our community that children needed homes. I decided that I had extra room and I could open my heart and home to kids that needed it,” said Christine Harris, adoptive parent and therapeutic foster care provider.
    Christine adopted Lacey when she was 6-years-old, and she adopted Nakiya when she was 9-years-old.

    SANBORN, N.Y. (WIVB) — Columbus Day has officially been renamed to Indigenous Peoples Day in the Niagara-Wheatfield Central School district.
    The Board of Education approved the request after a power point presentation by the Native American Club and the Niagara Wheatfield Student Council.

    Benito Gonzalez, 33, has been staying at the Niagara County Jail on several charges of attempted murder, kidnapping and domestic violence.

    Accused burglar sentenced for fatally beating Cheektowaga man inside his home
    CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — For beating a man to death inside his Cheektowaga home last year, a Buffalo man will spend 20 years in prison.
    In July 2015, Kevin Schwartz, 47, was allegedly burglarizing the Walden Ave. home of Lawrence Cassata, 67, when he fatally beat him.
    In addition to the 20-year sentence Schwartz will serve, he will spend another five years under post-release supervision.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A series of bank robberies continued when a man stole from a Citizens Bank inside a Tops store on Elmwood Ave. Tuesday night.
    According to police, the thief robbed the bank around 6 p.m.
    He is described as standing at approximately 5’6″ or 5’7″ and is a white man possibly in his 20s.
    At the time of the robbery, the man on camera was wearing a cream and gray striped sweater, police say.

    LITTLE VALLEY, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Cattaraugus County man has been charged with 17 counts of third-degree burglary.
    Authorities say Codie Capron, 26, stole tools and other items from garages and buildings across the county. His alleged crimes took place in Humphrey, Carrollton, Salamanca, Olean, Coldspring, Mansfield, Hinsdale, Great Valley and Allegany.
    After being arraigned in court, Capron was released on his own recognizance.

    SARDINIA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Kevin McCabe, whose son was killed this past October in a vehicle crash, has been found guilty of manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child.
