    Fentanyl dealer faces 15 years in jail after selling to undercover cop
    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A fentanyl dealer has admitted to his crime and now faces 15 years in jail.
    Prosecutors say that on two separate occasions in January and February, Robert Smith, 29, sold the powerful painkiller to an undercover officer with the New York State Police.
    After this, State Police searched Smith’s Gilette St. home, where they found 159 packages of fentanyl, packaging materials, two scales and more than $6,400 in cash.
    Smith will be sentenced on November 9.

    All WNY counties declared natural disaster areas amid drought
    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — More than one-third of the counties in New York have been declared natural disaster areas amid the Summer drought.
    What this means is that farmers in the affected counties may be eligible for assistance from the federal government. Assistance will be based on farmers’ crop loss during the season.
    In western New York, Erie, Niagara, Wyoming and Genesee counties were declared primary natural disaster areas. They are among 15 counties in this categorization.

    GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) — Erie County Sheriff’s deputies in Grand Island say they had to rescue an infant from a hot, running car when its parents accidentally locked it inside.
    After the baby’s parents called deputies, they came to the scene and noticed the 9-month-old child sweating and turning red.

    Irizarry was sentenced Wednesday for the fatal September 12 shooting of Nicholas Jozens on Clinton St.
    Irizarry pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the second day of his murder trial in July.
