    Local speed boat race brings families together
    NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB)- For some families it’s a tradition that dates back generations. Since 1939, hydroplane boats have raced through the Niagara River.
    Boats whiz by Gratwick Waterfront Park. They’re making a huge splash this weekend not only in the water, but within the community.Thousands of locals and visitors from across the world gather to watch this thrilling sport.     TOWN OF WILSON, N.Y. (WIVB)-  A man rescued his 86 year-old mother from a house fire on Cambria Wilson road Sunday morning.
    Smoke detectors woke the 61 year-old man up around 3 a.m.
    Officials say he helped his mom who has limited mobility to safety through the heavy smoke. Another woman in the home was also able to escape unharmed.
    Two pets were in the home at the time of the fire. One dog died and a cat survived.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) –  Changes are coming to how you’ll park on Hertel Avenue. Local leaders say people are parking in city-owned lots for long stretches of time. This lack of turnover makes it difficult to find a parking spot on the strip.
    Kenmore resident, John Lamb visits Hertel Avenue often. He said, “It’s always been difficult here. You’ve only got so many quarters on you, in your pocket for the meters you know?”

    CELERON, N.Y. (WIVB)- A new Lucille Ball statue was unveiled near Jamestown on Saturday to the applause of the large crowd that gathered.
    The tribute has been nine months in the making.

    Tanker crashes, catches on fire in Sardinia
    SARDINIA, N.Y. (WIVB) – People sprang into action after a tanker crashed in Sardinia Saturday afternoon.
    The Erie County Sheriff’s Office says the milk truck crashed shortly before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Routes 16 and 39. The scene was still active a few hours later.
    Witnesses tell us a driver pulled out in front of the truck. The truck driver swerved to avoid the car and that’s how the milk truck ended up on its side in a ditch.

    Car crashes into home on Hertel Avenue
    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Part of a home on Hertel Avenue had to be boarded up after it was hit by a car around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
    Police say a driver was traveling westbound and tried to make a left hand turn, and was cut off by another car.
    The driver swerved and hit a home in the 200 block of Hertel Avenue.
    The driver was not injured and no charges have been filed because the other car fled the scene.
    The crash is under investigation.

    Niagara Falls man dies after being shot multiple times
    NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) — Police in Niagara Falls are investigating a fatal shooting.
    Police say 27-year-old Marcel Walker was shot multiple times around 4:30 a.m. Saturday in the area of 2811 Highland Avenue.
    After the shooting, someone started driving Walker to the hospital.
    While transporting Walker, the driver of the vehicle saw a Rural Metro Ambulance and flagged it down.
    Walker was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Media Center where he was pronounced dead.
