    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A local veteran has taken matters into his own hands, sprucing up a memorial which honors fallen service men and women.
    David Osinski lives down the street from the memorial site at the intersection of Bailey Avenue and Lebrun in Buffalo. He says he passes by it every day and became curious about it. Upon further inspection, he realized it was a memorial dating back to the 1920s, honoring fallen soldiers.

    ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills have signed their top draft pick, defensive end Shaq Lawson, to a four-year, $10.3 million contract.
    The signing was announced by the team Monday, while a person familiar with the deal provided the contract’s value to The Associated Press. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the Bills did not reveal that figure.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 15-year-old Buffalo teen faces gun charges after police say they investigated a gun incident on Sunday.
    Police say they were called to Rickert Street for a gun event just after 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. During investigation, officers say they found a .22 caliber rifle in the teen’s possession on the floor of the vehicle.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man who fatally shot a woman inside a city home last year has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
    Last July, Michael Holley, 22, went into a home with the intention of confronting his uncle. He was armed with a shotgun at the time.
    After pushing his way into the residence, Holley ended up shooting Glendylyn Kinnitt, 54, as she was sitting on the couch.

    Wyoming County man accused of sex crimes against child
    SILVER SPRINGS, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 40-year-old man from Silver Springs is accused of sex crimes against a child.
    Wyoming County Sheriff’s deputies charged Stephen Harder with course of sexual conduct against a child, third-degree sex abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
    A Grand Jury indicted Harder on the charges. He was jailed on $100,000 bail and will appear in court at a later date.

    ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) — A man who ran away from the scene of a suspected overdose ended up in jail after Orchard Park Police stopped him on Thursday.
    When police responded to a reported overdose on Webster Rd. that morning, they saw Tyler Melisz, 23, run from the scene. Police say Melisz then got in a vehicle and drove off.
    An officer later stopped Melisz and began to search his vehicle. Inside of it, police say they found heroin, marijuana and a hypodermic needle.

    WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WIVB) — West Seneca residents found relief Sunday after officials announced the removal of seven sex offenders from two group homes on Leydecker Road.

    WASHINGTON (AP) – David Gilkey, a veteran news photographer and video editor for National Public Radio, and an Afghan translator, Zabihullah Tamanna, were killed while on assignment in southern Afghanistan on Sunday.
    NPR spokeswoman Isabel Lara says in a statement that Gilkey and Tamanna were traveling with an Afghan army unit when the convoy came under fire and their vehicle was struck. Two other NPR journalists traveling with them were unharmed.
