    Eichel scores in OT as Sabres beat Hurricanes 3-2
     BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Jack Eichel scored his second goal on a breakaway at 4:59 of overtime, lifting the Buffalo Sabres to a 3-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.
    Evander Kane had two assists and Chad Johnson made 28 saves for the Sabres, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Marcus Foligno also scored.
    Victor Rask and Phillip Di Giuseppe scored for Carolina, which had won two in a row. Cam Ward made 21 saves.
    The Hurricanes (31-26-12) are 10th in the Eastern Conferenc

    Two women rescued from Niagara Gorge
    NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB)- Niagara Falls State Park Police rescued two female hikers from the Niagara Gorge Saturday afternoon.
    The rope rescue happened in the area of Whirlpool State Park. Officials say that the women in their late teens were trying to take a shortcut through the gorge at the time of accident.

    BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP modified) — New York state health officials are investigating a possible mumps outbreak at SUNY Buffalo.The state Department of Health says the university has identified two probable and four suspected cases of mumps among its students.
    Students are on spring break until March 21. SUNY Buffalo is reviewing immunization records to identify students who may need to either be vaccinated or excluded from school when classes resume.

    ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A man on a snowmobile purposely drove into two dog teams competing in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race early Saturday morning, killing one dog and injuring at least three others, officials said.Mushers Aliy Zirkle and Jeff King were attacked outside the village of Nulato, a community of 236 on the Yukon River a little more than halfway into the 1,000-mile (1,600-kilometer) race to Nome.

    FLORIDA — There won’t be any more space voyages for astronaut Scott Kelly, who recently made history by spending almost an entire calendar year aboard a spaceship.

    Detectives have been investigating a deadly string of killings in December of 2014 since 11 people died in that month alone. Police arrested Wayne Wilson, 37, for stabbing to death Lewis Browning, 62, on Dec. 17, 2014.
