    “I initiated this because I do believe it’s a matter of public safety” said Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs, who now has the support of the Erie County Sheriff Road Patrol PBA, and the NY State Troopers PBA in his push to make bars in Erie County close at 2 a.m. instead of 4 a.m.

    BEIRUT (AP) — Russia’s military says that a helicopter that was searching for the crew of a shot-down warplane in Syria was shot down by rebel fire and one serviceman was killed.
    A spokesman for the general staff, Lt. Gen. Sergei Rudskoi, was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying Tuesday that the Mi-8 chopper was one of two taking part in the search operation.
    The rest of its crew were evacuated and taken back to the air base used by Russia in Syria.

    CHICAGO (AP) — A white Chicago police officer has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting a black teenager.
    Charges announced Tuesday come as the city prepares to release a squad-car video of Officer Jason Van Dyke shooting 17-year-old Laquan McDonald 16 times on Oct. 20, 2014.

    BEIRUT (AP) — Syrian rebels and activists say they have targeted and destroyed a Russian-made helicopter operated by the Syrian army near the area where a Russian warplane was downed by Turkey.
    A rebel spokesman, Zakaria al-Ahmad, says the chopper was flying low over mountains in Latakia province, allegedly searching for the missing Russian pilots on Tuesday.
