    NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans City Council has approved requests for emergency cash to help clean and repair thousands of drainage catch basins, hoping to prevent future flooding the likes of which took many residents by surprise earlier this month.

  • Louisiana debt refinancing estimated to save state $54M

    BATON ROUGE - Louisiana has refinanced $377 million in debt, saving the state millions in annual payments by getting a lower interest rate.
     State Treasurer Ron Henson's office announced Thursday that the refinancing will free up more than $54 million for infrastructure projects. Annual savings in debt repayment will range from $1.5 million to $2.7 million through 2045, while the principal debt also will drop.
     The state sells bonds to investors for upfront cash for projects.

    BATON ROUGE – Two kids were taken to the hospital after being hit by a car while exiting a school bus Thursday evening.The kids were hit at the corner of Alvin Dark and Jay Hebert Drive.  Police said the driver of the car stopped at the scene.Investigators determined the kids got off the school bus and as the bus pulled away, the kids ran across the street and were then hit by the car.  No drivers were at fault, police said.  The two kids, who were not ident
