    LA PLATA, Md. (AP) – Authorities say one person is dead after a motel fire in Maryland.
    Officials say the fire broke out late Sunday night at the South Winds Motel in La Plata. Firefighters received a 911 call from a neighbor about 11:20 p.m.

    BALTIMORE (AP) — Maryland officials say a doctor will pay about $3 million to settle civil liability claims from improperly billing Medicaid programs in Maryland and Delaware and the Medicare program.
    Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh said Monday that the settlement was reached with Zahid Aslam. He owned medical practices in Maryland and Delaware.
    The Maryland share of the settlement is about $1.3 million.

    SHARPSBURG, Md. (AP) — History buffs will have to dig deeper into their pockets to visit the Antietam National Battlefield in Maryland.
    National Park Service officials are increasing entrance fees on Jan. 1 to help address deferred maintenance and improve visitor services at the historic site.

    ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Renovations of the United States Naval Academy’s iconic chapel dome will begin this winter.
    The Capital reports that the chapel will remain operational for services, funerals and weddings during the $8.9 million project.

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — There were five shootings in Baltimore Sunday, one involving a 13-year-old and another fatal shooting.
