• Maryland Christmas Village Open For Holiday Season

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — The holiday season is here, and Maryland’s Inner Harbor is lighting up to celebrate.
    The Maryland Christmas Village in Baltimore officially opened Saturday afternoon.
    The village sits at West Shore Park on Light Street. The grand ceremony at 3 p.m. welcomed in the Christmas and holiday season.
    The hours are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

    Saturday night, a Christmas tradition starts in Baltimore.
    The 700 block of 34th Street is lit up starting Saturday night, and the lights will be on from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. every night.
    On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the lights stay on all night long.

  • Maryland Counties Sue Banks Over Mortgages To Minorities

    GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — Maryland’s two biggest counties are suing two major banks over alleged predatory and discriminatory mortgage practices.
    The Daily Record reports that Montgomery and Prince George’s counties accused Wells Fargo and Bank of America in a recently filed federal lawsuit of exploiting minority borrowers.

  • Baltimore Police Investigate Friday Night Shootings

    Baltimore Police are investigating two Friday night shootings in northeast Baltimore that left two people wounded.
    Police initially responded to the 3800 block of Echodale Avenue at about 8:58 p.m.
    Officers found a 40-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, homicide detectives responded to the scene and took control of the investigation.

  • Man Injured in Annapolis Shooting

    A man is in stable but serious condition after being shot in Annapolis early this morning.
    Annapolis Police responded to the 1100 block of Madison Street shortly after 4:10 a.m. Saturday.
    Officers located Marvin Venerable, 34, of Severn, outside in the parking lot.
    Venerable was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
    The shooting is under investigation. Annapolis Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact detectives at 410-260-3439.

    ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) — High school students could skip classes to attend political protests under a proposal up for debate in a Maryland public school district.
    The Washington Post reports that Montgomery County’s school board is expected to approve the proposal as early as January.

  • 3 Cars Stolen From Ruxton Neighborhood Friday

    BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) — Police are investigating three car thefts Friday.
    Police say three cars were stolen from Ruxton throughout Friday morning, possibly between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m.
    The cars stolen include two Hondas and an Acura stolen from the 1500 and 1600 blocks of Jeffers Road.

    WASHINGTON, D.C. (WJZ) — A passenger on a Delta flight that took off from Reagan National Airport ended up in handcuffs, after allegedly going on a racist tirade mid-air.
    The man was arrested after the flight landed in Atlanta, Ga.
    Police said the 37-year-old man started making anti-semitic statements to passengers on the plane.

  • Firefighters Rescue Dog From House Fire In Columbia, 3 People Displaced

    HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) — Firefighters in Howard County rescued a dog from a house fire Thursday.
    The flames broke out Thursday afternoon in the kitchen of a home along the 10000 block of College Square in Columbia, Md.
    Firefighters used a donated pet oxygen mask to help find the pup, who is expected to be okay.
    No one else was hurt.
    Three people displaced by the fire are now being helped by the American Red Cross.

  • Christmas Tree Prices Higher On Black Friday, Cyber Monday

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — If there’s one thing you might want to hold off on buying this Black Friday, it’s a Christmas tree.
    According to a report by the National Christmas Tree Association, trees cost about $77 on Black Friday, and the price spikes up to $81 on Cyber Monday.
