    Jessica Vennie, 28, was charged for her role in a scheme at the Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover. The scheme involved inmates bribing correctional officers to smuggle contraband, including narcotics, tobacco, pornography, and cell phones, into the prison.

  • Maryland Hospitals Rank Better For Safety Now, Than 6 Months Ago

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A new assessment shows they are safer now than they were six months ago.
    Leap-Frog Group did the research, with Maryland ranked 38th of all states for safety, with 20 percent of hospitals receiving the highest grade of “A”.
    This fall, Maryland had eight hospitals that receiving “A” grades, including five in the Baltimore area.
    No Maryland hospitals received failing “F” grades.

  • Woman In Stable Condition After Afternoon Shooting In Baltimore

    BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ) — Baltimore police are investigating the Friday afternoon shooting of a woman in southwest Baltimore.
    Officers responded at 12:32 p.m for a reported shooting in the 3000 block of Walbrook Ave., where they found a woman who had been shot in the torso.
    The woman was taken to an area hospital where she is listed in stable condition.

  • MS-13 Gang Member Sentenced For Robbing Taxi Drivers

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — An MS-13 gang member was sentenced to more than five years behind bars for his part in robbing several taxi drivers here in Maryland.
    Kevin Fernandez-Serrano, 23, was sentenced to 68 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for leading a conspiracy to rob taxi drivers.
    According to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Fernandez-Serrano, who is an El Salvador native, admitted to being an MS-13 gang member during his trial.

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Baltimore police are working to find who shot a 30-year-old man multiple times late Thursday night.
    The shooting happened sometime before 11:30 p.m., in the unit block of North Morley St.
