• BPD Investigating North Baltimore Shooting

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Officers were called to a hospital for a report of a walk-in shooting victim Friday.
    At around 4:25 p.m., officers were called and arrived to find a man with a graze wound to his upper body.
    Investigators believe the victim may have been in the area of York Road and Coldspring Lane when he was shot.
    Police are investigating this incident.

    COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJZ) — The University of Maryland is honoring the five victims killed in the Capital Gazette shooting.
    The Philip Merrill College of Journalism will rename an executive seminar room as an on-campus memorial for Maryland alumni John McNamara and Gerald Fischman, along with adjunct professor Rob Hiaasen and their colleagues Rebecca Smith and Wendi Winters.

  • Woman Killed By Friends While Fleeing Walmart Shoplifting Spree

    ELKTON, Md (WJZ) — 38-year-old Chermaine Mayo is the woman authorities said ran over and killed her own friend while trying to flee from a shoplifting spree.
    “For me, it’s really sad to see that someone could just dehumanize someone like that and leave the scene,” says Captain Joe Zurolo, Elkton Police Department.

  • Fmr. Correctional Officer Took Bribes To Smuggle Drugs Into Prison

    TOWSON, Md. (AP) — A former Maryland correctional officer has been sentenced after pleading guilty to bribery and conspiracy to distribute narcotics.
    The state prosecutor announced Friday that Warren Wright was sentenced to 20 years with all but three years suspended. Judge Mark Crooks also imposed five years of supervised probation after Wright’s release.
    So far, 16 of 18 defendants indicted in the conspiracy at the Jessup Correctional Institution in December have pleaded guilty.

    WHITE MARSH, Md. (WJZ) — A man was stabbed during a fight outside the restaurant early Friday in White Marsh.

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Baltimore-native Gervonta Davis was arrested early Friday morning in Washington D.C. after police say he was involved in a fistfight.

    GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) — Two men promised gold instead received copper, and now $300,000 is dust in the wind.
    Montgomery County police detective Mike Adami tells The Washington Post business partners from Brazil and Florida met a man simply known as “Edward” for a gold transaction Aug. 20. “Edward” offered a test sample, which checked out as gold dust.

    LORAINE, Ohio (WEWS) — The owners of two dogs who were starved, mistreated and left to die at a house out last month in Lorain have been charged, according to Lorain County Jail records.

    (CNN) — About 1,100 flights scheduled for Friday and Saturday have been canceled as a result of Hurricane Florence, according to the flight tracking site FlightAware.com. That’s in addition to more than 600 cancellations Thursday.

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — An 83-year-old woman believed to be sexually assaulted and murdered by a 14-year-old was laid to rest Friday.
    Dorothy Neal’s funeral was held at 11th Hour Ministries International.

    GREENBELT, Md. (WJZ) — Kyle Stephen Thompson, 33, of Burtonsville, Md., was convicted Thursday on 18 counts of production of child pornography.
    The jury deliberated less than 30 minutes before they found Thompson guilty.

  • Gas Explosions, Fires Reported In Boston Suburbs

    (CNN) — Nearly 40 homes and businesses in three Massachusetts towns on Thursday suffered explosions or fires that may have resulted from an issue with gas service, officials said.
    Suspected explosions have set structures on fire across dozens of blocks and forced evacuations in Lawrence, Andover and North Andover, Massachusetts State Police said.
