  • BGE Cuts Tree Branches Down For Maryland Zoo Animals

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — BGE is constantly trimming around its lines, and most of this ends up as mulch. But there are some special trees they are looking for. Mulberry, poplar and hickory trees.
    A couple of times a week, a contractor for BGE shows up at the Maryland Zoo and drops its load. Fresh cut local leaves are prized by the animals here.

    ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) — Maryland horse owners are advised to be on high alert after a pony in Frederick County died from Potomac Horse Fever last month.
    The Maryland Department of Agriculture said the pony, which was originally from the University of Kentucky’s Equine Diagnostic Laboratory, feel ill on July 26 and died four days later. A necropsy of the pony was performed at the Frederick Animal Health Laboratory on July 31.

    BALTIMORE CO., Md. (WJZ) — Crews were able to rescue two people who fell into a river in Baltimore County Tuesday afternoon.
    Baltimore County rescue crews were called out to Gunpowder Falls and I-83 for an inland water rescue.

  • Fatal Single-Vehicle Accident In Howard County

    GLENWOOD, Md. (WJZ) — Howard County Police are investigating the cause of a fatal accident in Glenwood Monday.
    Police say a 2009 Toyota Rav4 was traveling northbound on Route 97 near Cattail Oaks Around 2:52 p.m. It then left the road for an unknown reason and struck a tree.
    The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle. Leroy Peyton Truehart, 81, of Cooksville, was taken to Howard County General Hospital where he later died.

    ANNE ARUNDEL CO., Md. (WJZ) — There are countless summer camps, but one at BWI Airport is showing kids how many careers there are in aviation.
    There are of thousands of jobs at the airport, from the pilot in the front to the crew in the rear or the employees back at the terminal. There’s another job: the driver of an unusual airport bus taking middle schoolers to Aviation Camp at BWI.
    The campers come from five recreation centers in Baltimore.
