    LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — An evacuation order that covered about 150 homes in a Virginia city has been lifted after workers opened a sluice at a nearby dam to reduce water levels.
    Officials in Lynchburg lifted the evacuation order Saturday afternoon. It had been in place since Thursday.
    Earlier Saturday, water resources workers opened a sluice at College Lake Dam to lower reservoir levels so officials can make repairs to the dam.

    WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) — Two western Maryland parents who kept their youngest children locked in a cage-like room covered in feces have been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

  • 61-Year-Old Woman Struck and Killed on Liberty Heights Ave Saturday

    BALTIMORE, MD – The Baltimore Police Crash Team Unit is investigating a hit and run that left a 61-year-old woman dead.
    Police say they were called to the 2600 block of Liberty Heights Avenue around 11:07 a.m. for reports of a pedestrian struck by vehicle.
    Medics arrived to the location and found the woman unresponsive. She was pronounced dead on scene.

  • Record Rainfall Could Cause Cascade Lake Dam Breach

    CARROLL CO, MD – Cascade Lake is reportedly at its maximum capacity after heavy rainfall this past week and Friday night.  Officials say damage to the dam from Friday’s storm may cause an uncontrolled breach.

  • Man Listed in Critical Condition After Being Shot in Head

    BALTIMORE, MD  –  Baltimore City Police are investigating a shooting that left a man hospitalized Saturday morning.
    Officers were called to the 1800 block of Winchester Street around 4:56 a.m. for a reported shooting.
    Once on scene, units found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

    ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ/AP) — Maryland’s attorney general is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to preserve a cross-shaped memorial on public land which serves to honor the men killed in World War I.
    The Washington Post reports Attorney General Brian Frosh filed a brief in the case, which challenges the constitutionality of the 40-foot-tall (12-meter) cross in Prince George’s County. The cross sits in a median at an intersection in Bladensburg and is maintained with taxpayer funds.

  • Maryland State Police Make Major Drug Bust in Montgomery Co.

    MONTGOMERY CO., Md. (WJZ) — Maryland State Police have made a major drug bust during a traffic stop in Montgomery County.
    A state trooper stopped a tractor-trailer for speeding along Interstate 2-70.
    The trooper brought in a drug-sniffing dog who found more than 24 lbs. of drugs including fentanyl and heroin. Investigators say the amount of fentanyl confiscated could have killed over 700,000 people.
    The driver, 41-year-old Marco Popovich, faces several drug charges.

  • Prosecutors In Case Of Howard Co. Teacher Want Jurors To Visit Her Death Site

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — There are new developments Friday night in the murder of a Howard County teacher.
    Laura Wallen’s body was found in a field, in a shallow grave in Montgomery County last September. Police say her boyfriend, Tyler Tessier, killed her. She had just told him they were having a baby.
    Prosecutors are now asking a judge for permission to take jurors to where Wallen was killed. They say it will be key to their case. A motion is set for next month.
