• Bail Set At $2 Million For Suspect Identified In Trader Joe’s Standoff

    (CNN) — Los Angeles police identified the suspect in Saturday’s deadly armed standoff at a Trader Joe’s grocery store as Gene Evin Atkins.
    Atkins, 28, is being held on one count of murder and other charges soon to be determined, Los Angeles police Officer Drake Madison told CNN on Sunday. His bail was set at $2 million.
    A Trader Joe’s employee, Melyda Eldorado, died in the standoff, which stretched over several tense hours Saturday before the gunman surrendered.

    (CNN) — The New York police officer who choked Eric Garner in 2014 has been formally served with departmental charges, an NYPD spokesman said Saturday.

    BALTIMORE – The Maryland Emergency Management Agency has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City and County, Harford County, and Howard County until 3:45 p.m. Thunderstorms in the area may produce up to 2 inches of rain which can cause flooding in some areas.

    EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings say offensive line coach Tony Sparano has died at the age of 56.The Vikings say Sparano died early Sunday but did not give a cause of death. He had been the Vikings’ offensive line coach since 2016.
    Sparano began his NFL coaching career in 1999 and had stints as a head coach with the Miami Dolphins and Oakland Raiders.

  • Injured Osprey Rescued in Havre de Grace Saturday

    HAVRE DE GRACE – Officers from the Havre de Grace Police Department and Harford County Animal Control were called sometime Saturday for reports of an injured Osprey.
    Officer Krejci found the bird in a field suffering from an injury to its left wing.
    There is no word on how the osprey was injured, but it was taken to Chadwell Animal Hospital for treatment.

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Police are on the hunt for a man they say robbed a woman inside a Harford County grocery store.
    Investigators say the man stole the woman’s purse, took her keys and ran around 1 p.m. on June 24. An hour later, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office said he returned to the store and stole the victim’s car while she was still at the scene in the 2200 block of Hanson Rd. in Edgewood.

    ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ/AP) — Students from a Maryland school where a girl was killed in a shooting and a reporter from the Capital-Gazette newspaper where five people were shot to death last month are urging lawmakers to approve stronger gun-control measures.
    Dozens of people rallied Saturday in a driving rain outside the Maryland State House in Annapolis.
    The group expressed frustration over what they see as a lack of action by lawmakers on both the state and federal level.
