    BALTIMORE (AP) — A federal judge has ruled officials in a Maryland county must issue permits allowing the sale of private townhouses to a group of Muslim buyers, after finding the denial of them was “motivated at least in part by discriminatory intent.”

    BALTIMORE (AP) — Ben Jealous is canvassing for votes with another man named Ben: Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.
    Jealous, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor of Maryland, has two events scheduled Saturday with Cohen, who is a co-founder of the ice cream company.

  • Elementary School Changes Confederate Name To Honor Barack Obama

    RICHMOND, Va. (WJZ) — An elementary school in Virginia is making a big statement by changing its name.
    J.E.B. Stuart Elementary School in Richmond is currently named after a Confederate general. But the Richmond Public School Board voted Monday to rename it Barack Obama Elementary School.
    Name suggestions came from the community and students — 95 percent of whom are African-American.

  • Baltimore Co. Fire Dept. Employee Finds Death Threat Letters On Car, At Home

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — An employee of the Baltimore County Fire Department reportedly received a death threat containing a racial slur last week.
    Our media partner The Baltimore Sun reports the victim found the letter on his car that was parked in a garage along Baltimore Avenue in Towson on June 14.
    The victim received the letter after finding a similar one was at his home.
    An investigation is ongoing.

    ANNAPOLIS (WJZ) — A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the death of another boy whose remains were found in a wooded area in Annapolis last year.
    The body of 17-year-old Neris Bonilla-Palacios was found Oct. 3, 2017, near Open Lane View Lane. Anne Arundel County Police said there was evidence of trauma to Bonilla-Palacios’ body. The teen was initially reported missing Aug. 5.

    (CNN) — Pardon bourbon lovers for crying in their beer after half of the barrels being aged at a Kentucky distillery building fell to the ground when part of the structure collapsed.
    About 9,000 stacked bourbon barrels plummeted to the ground at Barton 1792 Distillery, home of the brand 1792 Bourbon.
    The building, which holds up to 20,000 barrels, was having a wall repaired. The collapse brought down half of the building, with the other half still intact.
