  • ‘Numerous Fatalities’ In Shooting At Florida School; Suspected Shooter In Custody

    PARKLAND, Fla. (AP/WJZ) —A shooting at a Florida high school Wednesday sent students rushing out into the streets as SWAT team members swarmed in and locked down the building, though police say the suspected shooter has been taken into custody.
    Broward County Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie said there were “numerous fatalities” in this shooting, and a “teacher or administrator” is among the fatalities.

  • Lawsuit: Brothers Unlawfully Arrested For Exercising 1st Amendment Rights

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A federal lawsuit was filed Wednesday that alleges two brothers were unlawfully arrested for exercising their First Amendment rights in Annapolis.
    According to the lawsuit, Jeff and Kevin Hulbert were arrested while Jeff was carrying a sign on a public sidewalk in the state capital.

  • MS-13 Gang Member Pleads To Racketeering Charge

    GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — A member of the MS-13 street gang has pleaded guilty to racketeering charges that include shooting and killing gang rivals.
    The U.S. Attorney in Maryland says 26-year-old Selvin Raymundo Salazar pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in Greenbelt. Salazar and two others were charged with shootings in suburban Maryland from 2012 through 2014.

    BALTIMORE (AP) — U.S. health regulators have approved the first blood test to help diagnose traumatic brain injuries.
    The move means Banyan Biomarkers can commercialize its test, giving the San Diego-based company an edge in the biotech industry’s race to find a way to diagnose concussions.

  • Chemist Charged With Taking Cyanide, Dumping In Storm Drain

    WARRINGTON, Pa. (AP) — A chemist stole potassium cyanide from his workplace to use as pest control at home and poured it down a suburban Philadelphia storm drain when he learned there was an investigation, prosecutors said.
    Richard O’Rourke, 60, has been charged with risking a catastrophe, theft, receiving stolen property and recklessly endangering others. He’s accused of taking about a cup of potassium cyanide from the Merck & Co. facility in Montgomery County in December.

    FORT MEADE, Maryland (WJZ/AP) — Police responded to a shooting Wednesday outside the National Security Agency campus at Fort Meade, where authorities surrounded a handcuffed man after a black SUV rammed a barrier.

    SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — An elk leaped into a research helicopter that was trying to capture it and brought down the helicopter in a collision that also killed the elk, authorities said Tuesday.
    The elk jumped into the chopper’s tail rotor as the aircraft flew about 10 feet (3 meters) above ground in a mountainous part of eastern Utah, with its crew trying to drop a net on the elk, said Jared Rigby of the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office.

    (CNN) — Convicted New York City bomber Ahmad Khan Rahimi was sentenced to multiple life sentences in prison by a federal judge on Tuesday.

    GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a climber who fell up to 1,000 feet (305) meters and was airlifted off Mount Hood has died.
    The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office says the male climber was pronounced dead upon arrival at a Portland, Oregon, hospital Tuesday afternoon.

    ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — The former manager of a Maryland police lab has been sentenced to six months in prison for stealing prescription drugs dropped off at police stations.
