  • Ex-Principal Gets 90-Day Sentence In Baltimore School Thefts

    BALTIMORE (AP) — A former Baltimore high school principal who pleaded guilty to stealing more than $58,000 in school funds has been sentenced to 90 days in jail.
    Leslie Lewis, former principal of Baltimore Community High School, received a 5-year sentence Friday, but a judge suspended all but 90 days and ordered her to serve five years probation.
    Lewis also was ordered to pay $58, 689.40 restitution to the city Board of Education.

    ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A Baltimore man who authorities say disguised himself as a woman to carry out a murder has been granted a new trial.
    Brandon Payton was sentenced to life in prison in 2016 after being convicted of killing 33-year-old Steven Bass.

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A Maryland lawmaker has proposed legislation that would allow school employees to carry firearms on school property.

    (CNN) — French dairy giant Lactalis said baby milk products produced at its Craon factory could have been contaminated with salmonella for more than a decade.

    Los Angeles coroner’s spokesman Ed Winter said Thursday an autopsy determined that Salling died from asphyxia after hanging himself.

    BALTIMORE (AP) — Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh says the state will challenge the constitutionality of the federal tax overhaul.
    Frosh announced Thursday that Maryland, along with other states, will challenge the law’s $10,000 federal cap on state and local property and income tax deductions. He says the state intends to join a New York-led lawsuit.
