  • Children’s Toys Seized At BWI Airport For Potential Choking Hazard

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized nearly 2,000 packages of children’s mini activity cubes because they posed potential choking hazards to children.
    The toys, valued at more than $5,600, were headed to Harrisburg, Pa., after being shipped from Hong Kong.
    Officers submitted samples to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, and tests found the the toys violated the small parts requirement of the Federal Hazardous Substances Act.

  • Police: Teen Arrested After Starting House Fire, Trying To Steal From School

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Police have arrested a 16-year-old accused of setting fire to a Baltimore County house, before going to a school and trying to steal items from inside.
    The Baltimore County Police Department reports the teen boy’s crime spree began just after 10:30 a.m. Thursday, when the fire department was called to the 900 block of Bardswell Rd. for a house fire.
    Authorities found that the fire was intentionally set by the 16-year-old.

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A Maryland Department of Corrections officer has been indicted on charges that he assaulted an inmate.
    Lucky Oligie has been indicted on charges of second-degree assault and two counts of misconduct in office, according to the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office.
    These charges go back to an incident on December 15, 2017, when Oligie was helping process an inmate into jail.

    Last year’s first round pick for the Ravens faces a charge of third-degree robbery, according to the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

  • Police: Kids Ate Food Possibly Laced With Marijuana, Man Charged

    LEXINGTON PARK, Md. (AP) — Authorities in Maryland say they’ve charged a man with reckless endangerment after middle school students ate food that police suspect was laced with marijuana.
    The Sheriff’s Office in St. Mary’s County said Wednesday that 46-year-old Owusu Sondai Kanipe was charged in a summons. It has not yet been served.

    ATLANTA (AP) — Home Depot is paying out one-time bonuses of up to $1,000 in cash to its hourly workers in the U.S., citing the recent tax overhaul.

    SALISBURY, Md. (AP) — Three young children have been rescued from a burning home in Maryland.

  • Mt. Airy Fire Requires Assistance From 4 Counties Crews

    BALTIMORE (WJZ)– A house has been destroyed after a Carroll County fire ignited Wednesday afternoon.
    Fire officials say the Mt. Airy fire broke out around 4:18 p.m. in the 5900 block of Cabbage Spring Road.

    ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland senators are considering adding a 60-day extension to enforce a new paid sick leave law.
    The law is scheduled to take effect Feb. 11, 30 days after the legislature voted to override Gov. Larry Hogan’s veto.

    BALTIMORE (WJZ)– The testimony of a former Baltimore City Police Gun Trace Task Force detective is shining a new light on the scope of corruption within the elite unit. It has since been disbanded— its members placed under arrest.
    Maurice Ward took the stand in the federal trial of two fellow former GTTF detectives, Daniel Hersl and Marcus Taylor, and he detailed how officers robbed people of cash and drugs, even setting up GPS devices on some targets.
    He outlined one $20,000 robbery
