    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Prince George’s County rescue crews saved a police officer and three people after the cop tried to save the group who had fallen through ice into the water Sunday afternoon, officials say.

    WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) — Two Army captains who met at West Point have returned there to be married, in what is believed to be the first same-sex marriage of active-duty personnel at the storied New York military academy.
    The New York Times reports Captains Daniel Hall and Vincent Franchino were married on Jan. 13. They’re both Apache helicopter pilots stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas.

  • NASA Bumps Astronaut Off Space Station Flight In Rare Move

    CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — NASA has bumped an astronaut off an upcoming spaceflight, a rare move for the space agency so close to launch.
    Astronaut Jeanette Epps was supposed to rocket away in early June, and would have been the first African-American to live on the International Space Station. Late Thursday, NASA announced it was pulling Epps off the mission but didn’t disclose why. Astronauts have been removed from missions in the past, mostly for health reasons.

    COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The number of organ transplants rose across the nation last year as more organs became available because of the increase in fatal drug overdoses.
    The nonprofit group Lifeline Ohio saw a record number of donors and recipients in 2017, The Columbus Dispatch has reported .

    PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Workers in Philadelphia are greasing light poles in a bid to prevent fans from climbing up them after the NFC Championship game.
    Officials say the grease should make the poles too slippery to climb.
    The workers applying the grease are jokingly calling themselves the “Crisco Cops.”
    The Philadelphia Eagles are hosting the Minnesota Vikings in the championship game on Sunday night. The winning team will earn a spot in the Super Bowl.

  • BWI Continues To See Record Number Of Passengers; Adds Boost To Local Economy

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — For the third consecutive year, BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport saw a record number of passengers, and they continue to be the busiest airport in the region.
    William Diaz, who lives in Colleg Park, Maryland, says he travels through BWI because of the convenience.
    “It’s only 25 minutes from home, and the fact that all the non-stop flights back home to Puerto Rico, most of them come from here,” he said.
