    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A rare coin dropped in a Salvation Army red kettle in Montgomery County is worth between $1,300 and $1,700, the organization says.
    Salvation Army donations are unusually low this year — about 13 percent off the pace — so the rare gold coin came just in time, Tracey Leong reports.

    AZTEC, N.M. (AP) — Students hid in their classrooms, some behind locked doors, as a suspect opened fire Thursday inside a New Mexico high school, killing two classmates before ending up dead.
    Authorities and other officials in the small town of Aztec near the Colorado border have released few details other than to say the shooter and the two victims all attended Aztec High School. No other injuries were reported, and it was not clear if the shooter died by suicide or was killed by police.

    NEW YORK (AP) — The Archdiocese of New York says it has paid just over $40 million in compensation to 189 people who identified themselves as victims of clergy sexual abuse.
    The Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program ended Nov. 30, but some additional claims are still being processed.
    Mediators evaluated claims and determined the amount of compensation.
    A spokesman for the Roman Catholic archdiocese did not have a breakdown on the various amounts of payments to each recipient.

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) —Three suspects in the slaying of a 41-year-old bartender outside a Locust Point Royal Farms last month are in custody and have been charged with murder.
    Police say Alexander Wroblewski was buying a late night snack of milk and cookies after work, when he was attacked, robbed and shot.
    Tonya Hayes, her boyfriend, Marquese Anthony Winston, and her son, Tivontre Gatling-Mouzon, were behind the attack, investigators say, and Winston pulled the trigger.

  • Man Breaks Leg In Cargo Ship Fall, Taken To Hospital Via Boat, Helicopter

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A man fell into a hole on a shipping container on a cargo ship in the Chesapeake Bay Thursday, breaking his femur, according to the Annapolis Fire Department.
    Annapolis, Anne Arundel, Coast Guard and Maryland Natural Resources Police units helped rescue the 35-year-old, who was aboard the Jia Mao Shan ship from Hong Kong, NRP says.
    He was airlifted by Maryland State Police helicopter for treatment. He has non-life-threatening injuries.

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — A judge has sentenced a Michigan sports doctor to 60 years in federal prison for child pornography crimes, one of three criminal cases against a man who also admits assaulting female gymnasts.
