    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — The United States Geological Survey reports that Delaware has experienced a 4.4 magnitude earthquake.
    The earthquake was initially reported as a 5.1 magnitude, but USGS confirms to WJZ that it was only a 4.4 quake.
    Although it was centered near Dover, WJZ has received many reports of people feeling the ground shake throughout Maryland, including in Baltimore, Jessup and Pasadena. It was also felt to the north of Delaware, as far away as Rockway Park, New York.

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A federal grand jury has indicted a former Baltimore Police sergeant on charges related to a 2010 arrest during which evidence was allegedly planted in a suspect’s car.
    Recently-murdered Detective Sean Suiter, who was also involved in that arrest, was allegedly set up to find the planted evidence, 28 grams of heroin.

  • New Study Finds Dogs Are Brainier Than Cats

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) —  There’s a new twist in the age-old argument over whether cats are smarter than dogs, or vice versa.
    A new study provided by Vanderbilt University to phys.org found that dogs have significantly more cortical neurons, the “little gray cells” associated with thinking, planning, and complex behavior.
    The official cortical count provided by the study shows dogs having about 530 million while cats have 250 million. Humans have about 16 billion.

  • Man Charged With Rape While Impersonating A Police Officer

    LANGLEY PARK, Md. (AP) — Police in a Maryland suburb of Washington have charged a man with raping another man while impersonating a police officer.
    Prince George’s County Police said in a news release Thursday that the victim was in Langley Park Sunday night when he was approached by a man in a car. The victim told police the man had a badge hanging around his neck and identified himself as a police officer.

  • Autopsy Shows Man Found In Vacant House Fire Was Also Shot

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A man’s body was discovered inside of a vacant house that was on fire in West Baltimore Wednesday night. His death has been ruled a homicide.
    At around 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, officers were called to the 3000 block of Rayner Avenue for a report of a house fire. While crews extinguished the flames, they found a man’s body inside the home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
    An autopsy was conducted and it showed that the man had been shot multiple times

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — On Thursday morning around 11:20 a.m., police were called to the 1800 block of Aiken Street for report of a shooting.

    COVENTRY, R.I. (AP) — The parents of an 8-month-old girl who died last week have been charged with felony neglect after police said the potent opioid fentanyl was found in her system.
    Authorities received a 911 call around 6 a.m. Nov. 19 about an unresponsive infant, Coventry Police said Wednesday. They took the child to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The child’s cause of death has not been determined yet, according to police.

    HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut man who pretended to be pop stars like Justin Bieber and Harry Styles to entice young girls into performing sexual acts during online video chats has been sentenced to 17 years in prison.
    Federal prosecutors say 50-year-old John Eastman, of Waterbury, was also sentenced Tuesday to a lifetime of probation.

    BALTIMORE (WJZ)– The Baltimore City Fire Department confirmed that one person is dead after crews extinguished a fire at a vacant house Wednesday night.
    City fire officials say they responded to a fire at a vacant house in the 3000 block of Rayner Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. Crews were able to put the fire out after about 10-12 minutes of the call.
    A person believe to be a man, was found dead inside the home, fire officials say.
    The cause of the fire is under investigation.
