  • Necropsy Reveals Md. Zoo’s Baby Giraffe, Euthanized At 1 Month, Had Nerve Damage

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) —The loss was heartbreaking, but now there are answers as to why a baby giraffe born at the Maryland Zoo lived for only four weeks before handlers were forced to euthanize him.
    A necropsy was recently completed on the body of Julius, the giraffe calf who was only the second in 20 years to be born at the Druid Hill Park facility.
    Julius was born in June and died in July. During that time period, efforts to save his life were shared on the zoo’s social media pages.

  • County Officials In Maryland Hike Minimum Wage To $15 An Hour

    ROCKVILLE, Md. (WJZ/AP) — The Montgomery County Council voted unanimously to raise its minimum wage to $15 an hour over a period of years.
    Councilmembers voted Tuesday on an amended bill that would force large employers to adopt the $15 hourly wage by 2022. Small employers would need to pay the higher wage by 2024.

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — The second survivor of the deadly massacre at Advanced Granite Solutions has been released from the hospital.
    WJZ has confirmed that Jose Gillen has been discharged from Shock Trauma.
