    LOS ANGELES (AP) — Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein’s membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has been revoked by its board.
    The decision was reached Saturday in an emergency session. It comes after recent reports by The New York Times and The New Yorker that revealed sexual harassment and rape allegations against Weinstein going back decades. The move by the Academy is virtually unprecedented.

  • Md. National Guard To Deploy Soldiers To Puerto Rico

    MIDDLE RIVER, Md. (AP) — The Maryland National Guard is deploying 15 soldiers to participate in relief efforts in Puerto Rico.
    The soldiers are from the 729th Quartermaster Composite Supply Company, and will be departing from Warfield Air National Guard Base in Middle River on Saturday. The soldiers are shipping off to Puerto Rico to help in the wake of Hurricane Maria.
    The unit will be deployed for about 30 days to help with water purification efforts on the island.

    BALTIMORE (AP) — A Baltimore-based artist has been chosen by Michelle Obama to paint a portrait of the former first lady.
    Mrs. Obama chose Amy Sherald, whose painting “Miss Everything (Unsuppressed Deliverance)” won first place in the National Portrait Gallery’s 2016 Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition, to paint her official portrait. Sherald received her MFA in painting from Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.

    COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — The University of Maryland announced Saturday that Kevin Anderson remains the school’s athletic director, despite reports he has been fired.

    NEW YORK (AP) — A driver has been accused of crashing on a New York City highway and fleeing his burning car while leaving his passenger to die.
    The crash happened early Friday on the westbound Brooklyn-Queens Expressway in Brooklyn.

    Baltimore Police Department officers were called to a local hospital just before 3 a.m., to investigate two shooting victims.
