    DALLAS (AP) — Key oil and gas facilities along the Texas Gulf Coast have temporarily shut down as Hurricane Harvey pounds the region with torrential rain and high winds, virtually assuring gasoline prices will rise in the storm’s aftermath.
    Even before the Harvey made landfall late Friday, dozens of oil and gas platforms had been evacuated, at least three refineries had closed and at least two petrochemical plants had suspended operations.

    HOUSTON (AP) —  The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Harvey has strengthened to a Category 4 storm.
    The center says Harvey has sustained wind speeds of 130 mph (209 kph) as the powerful storm churns off the Texas coast. Forecasters are labeling it a “life-threatening storm.”
    The storm quickly grew Thursday from a tropical depression into a Category 1 hurricane, and then developed into a Category 2 storm early Friday. By Friday afternoon, it had become a Category 3
  • Three New Baby Puffins Have Hatched At National Aquarium

    The National Aquarium is puffed up with pride as it introduces three new additions to the puffin families.
    The three chicks were hatched between July 6 and August 10, marking the first time the aquarium has had three new puffins in one breeding season.
    Their names are Gnocchi, a boy and girls Viola and Willow.
    After about 45 days with their parents, the pufflings will emerge from their burrows for everyone to see.
    There are now 12 puffins living within the Sea Cliffs exhibit.
