  • Minor Injury Reported After Fire At Vacant House

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Fire crews report one person suffered minor injuries from a fire at a vacant building Sunday afternoon.
    Baltimore City Fire Department firefighters were called about a 2-story vacant dwelling fire in the 4100 block of Audrey Ave. in the Brooklyn area of south Baltimore.
    Crews were able to extinguish the flames just after 12:45 p.m.
    One person did suffer minor injuries, but they refused to be taken to the hospital.
    The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

    BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming is set to arrive in Baltimore on Tuesday ahead of the 142nd Preakness.
    He is set to arrive at BWI-Thurgood Marshall Airport on May 9, at 9:30 a.m., and will then be shipped to Pimlico Race Course.

    CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina man is being honored for the price he paid while fighting Nazis during World War II.
    The Anderson Independent Mail reports 93-year-old George Mitchell on Sunday is receiving his Purple Heart medal. He earned it after being wounded during the Battle of the Bulge as a 20-year-old machine-gunner.
    The former Minnesota country boy didn’t receive the medal given to service members wounded in action because he didn’t want to worry his sick mother.

    FOLKSTON, Ga. (AP) — A fire official says a wildfire in the Okefenokee Swamp is continuing to spread in southern Georgia.

    NEWBURY, Vt. (AP) — Here’s a thief who definitely has sticky fingers.
    Vermont State Police are investigating a theft of maple syrup from a sugar house in Newbury. Authorities say sometime between 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday, someone broke into the sugar house and made off with multiple containers of syrup.

    Saturday, swimmer Katie Hoff returned to the North Baltimore Aquatic Club to be inducted into the Maryland Swimming Hall of Fame.
    Hoff retired from professional swimming after she developed blood clots in her lungs. She is now helping to build awareness for pulmonary embolisms.
