  • UT police, APD investigating reported overnight campus sex assault

    AUSTIN (KXAN) — The University of Texas Police Department and the Austin Police Department are investigating a reported sexual assault on campus, UTPD said Sunday.
    Officials said it happened in the early morning hours on Dec. 31 at Clark Field in the 300 block of East 21st Street near East Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard and San Jacinto Boulevard. UTPD said it was reported to them at about 5:30 a.m.
    Police said they did not believe there was a threat to the public.

  • An inside tour of Fareground before it opens to the public

    AUSTIN (KXAN) – The food hall trend comes to Austin when Fareground opens January 18. Seven restaurants will operate out of the basement of 111 Congress, a space the ELM restaurant group is developing.
    “They came to us and said, ‘Hey, we want to do a food hall really as an amenity for the building,’ and we saw it as an opportunity to be an amenity for Austin,” says Chef Andrew Curren. He says food halls are all the rage in the hospitality world right now.

  • Texas man found dead in Padre Island seashore surf

    CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Authorities in South Texas are investigating the death of a New Braunfels man found in the surf at the Padre Island National Seashore.
    Kleberg County sheriff’s officials say the death of 60-year-old Kevin Francis O’Toole is considered “questionable” but they don’t immediately suspect foul play. The Nueces County Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy.

  • Carbon monoxide blamed for deaths of 3 Central Texas hunters

    BROWNWOOD, Texas (AP) — Authorities in Central Texas say three relatives on a hunting trip are believed to have died of carbon monoxide poisoning inside a box trailer that was converted into a cabin.
    Brown County Sheriff Vance Hill says propane heaters were used to keep the cabin warm but the structure didn’t have proper ventilation. He says there was no way for the poisonous fumes from the heaters to escape.

    AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin Firefighters are responding to a duplex fire in east Austin with fire coming through the roof.
    The call came in around 11:22 a.m. in the 2500 block of Burleson Road near East Oltorf Street. Fire officials tell us 6 people are displaced but no one is injured.  One dog had to be rescued.
    There’s extensive damage to the roof.
    The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
    This is a developing story. KXAN has a crew on the way to the scene.

  • Authorities: Multiple sheriff’s deputies ‘down’ near Denver

    DENVER (AP) — A number of deputies were wounded after being called to the scene of a domestic disturbance in suburban Denver on Sunday, authorities said.
    The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said via its Twitter account that shots were fired in the course of the investigation and “multiple” deputies were injured. The shooting happened at the Copper Canyon Apartments in Highlands Ranch. The landscaped apartment complex is 16 miles (28 kilometers) south of Denver.

    Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said the shooting occurred at a home at the Copper Canyon Apartments, a landscaped complex in Highlands Ranch, 16 miles (28 kilometers) south of Denver.

    HOUSTON (KXAN) — A man has been arrested on multiple charges after police located a small arsenal of guns on the top floor of the Hyatt Regency on Louisiana Street in downtown Houston, according to NBC affiliate KPRC.
    Police at the hotel called for backup around 1:30 a.m. Sunday after they attempted to arrest the man for being intoxicated and trespassing. When help arrived, police noticed ammunition laying around the man’s hotel room.
