  • Man creates backyard nativity scene from recycled materials

    CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) — A Cedar Park man has turned his backyard into a giant nativity scene, and in the spirit of Christmas he has opened it up for the public to enjoy as well.
    Jorge Villanueva spent three years creating the nativity village all out of recycled materials like styrofoam, stucco and old Barbie dolls. Villanueva says he was inspired by his grandfather who built his own nativity scene. After his grandfather passed, Villanueva decided to continue the tradition 2 years ago.

  • Message of hope resonates during Christmas Eve services in Sutherland Springs

    SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, Texas (KXAN) — The congregation of First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs hugged, lit candles and prayed.
    During Christmas Eve services, the message of hope echoed through the portable building which sits right next to the white church. In November, a gunmen walked into the church and killed 26 people.
    The church’s Pastor Frank Pomeroy focused on the meaning of Christmas, despite heartbreak. His 14-year-old daughter was among the victims in the mass shooting.
  • Man, woman reunited after he falls off sailboat at Lake Travis, goes missing

    LAKE TRAVIS, Texas (KXAN) – A man and a woman were reunited Sunday evening after the man fell out of a sailboat into the water at Lake Travis, said the Austin Fire Department and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.
    He went missing, triggering an emergency search that lasted 50 minutes until he was found safe on shore, AFD said.

  • Crews rescue man, 60s, after he suffers injury in Barton Creek Greenbelt

    AUSTIN (KXAN) – Emergency crews worked for more than two hours to rescue an injured man in his 60s in the Barton Creek Greenbelt in west Austin Sunday, said Austin-Travis County EMS.
    The call came in at about 3:48 p.m. Sunday afternoon to a part of the greenbelt near the 1300 block of South Capital of Texas Highway, ATC EMS said.
    Crews initially asked Star Flight to respond, but cancelled an air evacuation after they reached the man and decided he could be extricated by ground.
