• Alaska ferry system to receive $410 million in delayed federal funds

    The Alaska Marine Highway System will finally receive $410 million in federal grant money, according to federal and state officials at a press conference held in Anchorage on Friday. 
    The money is from ferry grants that were delayed from last year and appropriated from the Biden-era Bipartisan Infrastructur

    Just days after opening to students, the main structure on a new playground at Juneau School District’s Dzantik’i Heeni campus is closed. 
    In a message to the campus’ families and staff on Friday, Juneau Superintendent Shawn Arnold announced the playground will be temporarily closed “out of an abundance of caution,” due to a broken cable.&nbs

  • State approves controversial New Amalga mine access road in Juneau

    The state approved the first segment of a new access road for the controversial New Amalga gold mine in Juneau on Tuesday, after the vast majority of public comments opposed the project.
    The approval comes just a few weeks after the mine secured a fast federal permitting process and would be located at the face of Herbert Glacier. It’s proposed by Grande Portage Resources, Ltd., a Canadian junior mining company.
