• Students connect with tradition and language at Hoonah culture camp

  When young people face challenges in life, adults and educators can struggle with how to help.
  Over the summer, students in Hoonah attended a culture camp that seeks to address some of these problems by connecting students with Alaska Native traditions.The Haa Tóo Yéi Yatee culture camp is almost an hour drive from Hoonah.

  Major illness is always stressful, but for families with young children, struggling with health challenges can be especially difficult.

• Top two officials in division overseeing prisons no longer work for state

  The top two officials in the state division overseeing prisons had their last day of work on Monday.
  Division of Institutions Director Bruce Busby and Deputy Director Caitlin Price no longer work for the Department of Corrections, according to department spokeswoman Megan Edge.

• State road striping gets messy in Petersburg

  First it was chip sealing that damaged Petersburg vehicles.
  Now it’s messy road paint on some of those same roads.
  Motorists are complaining about the state of Alaska’s road painting job this week, with bright yellow line paint smeared along several state roads.
