  JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Gov. Bill Walker says he will probably run for re-election but currently has more pressing issues on his mind — including crafting a tax bill that he hopes will garner support from lawmakers.

  HOMER, Alaska (AP) — The Alaska Public Offices Commission has assessed a $725 penalty against Heartbeat of Homer – Assembly Recall, the political group that registered to advocate for recalling three Homer City Council members.

• Alaska State Troopers: Police justified in fatal shooting

  FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) — An Alaska State Troopers investigation found Fairbanks police were “legally justified” in their use of deadly force in a May 25 shooting.

• Neighbor: Couple marking anniversary on cruise

  ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A neighbor of a 39-year-old Utah woman killed aboard an Alaska cruise says it’s completely out of character for the woman’s husband to be accused of such violence.

• ADF&G maps out new zones for mountain goat hunting on Baranof

  The Alaska Department of Fish & Game has a new management strategy for mountain goat hunting. The season begins on August 1st.

• Klawock couple charged with tax evasion

  A Klawock couple has been charged with four counts of willful failure to pay their individual income taxes, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
  A statement released Wednesday said Archie W. Demmert III and his wife, Roseann Demmert, earned income from commercial fishing through the company Vetta Bay LLC, which was owned by Archie Demmert. It was on this income that they allegedly failed to pay taxes.

• GCI tells customers “No Worries” increases data plan for “rural hub communities”

• FDA proposes reducing nicotine in cigarettes

  Nicotine will now be at the center of the Food and Drug Administration’s effort to regulate tobacco, the agency said, announcing that it will aim to lower the amount of nicotine in cigarettes to a level that will help curb addiction.
