• Crude oil leak in Cook Inlet halted successfully; spill volume still unknown

  State regulators on Monday said a leak from a crude oil pipeline in Cook Inlet was halted successfully.

  A 22-year-old was arrested for his connection to a December double-homicide.
  According to a Monday release from the District Attorney’s office, Savon Wiley was taken into custody Sunday by the Anchorage Police Department. A grand jury indicted him on two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of robbery.

  Many Alaskans are interested in eating local, but eating local isn’t just about the food we put on the table. It’s also the seed that food is grown from. In Alaska, there is just one certified seed laboratory in the state — the Plant Materials Center in Palmer run by the Division of Agriculture.

• St. Petersburg subway explosion rocks Russian city

  ST. PETERSBURG, Russia — An explosion in the St. Petersburg subway system left at least 9 people dead and dozens injured on Monday, Russian anti-terrorism officials said.

• 1 killed in Seward Highway collision

  A two-car vehicle collision, on Sunday, on the Seward Highway left a 65-year-old Anchorage woman dead, according to Alaska State Troopers.
  In an online dispatch, troopers wrote that they responded to the incident with Girdwood and Moose Pass emergency medical responders. According to AST, Patrick Strain, 65, was headed south when he lost control of the 2005 Toyota Tundra truck he was driving.   Anchorage police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found by railroad tracks near downtown Anchorage Sunday.
  An Alaska Railroad employee spotted what they believed was a body between the train tracks and the water’s edge in the area of 12th Avenue and U Street, police Sgt. Shaun Henry explained. The company called police to report the incident Sunday afternoon.

  Stolen snowmachines, a trailer and a truck were recovered Sunday after Alaska State Troopers received a tip that someone was trying to sell them in Soldotna.
