  Climate change is a daily reality in Alaska. Those changes are happening across forests, tundra, in the Arctic ocean and in your backyard.

• McHugh fire delays traffic, some people evacuating neighborhoods

  The McHugh Fire burning in the Anchorage area close to the Seward Highway is now estimated at 350 acres. Earlier estimates on Tuesday said it had grown to more than 500 acres, but fire officials downgraded the size based on better mapping.

  At a Senate Resource Committee meeting on Tuesday, lawmakers pressed state officials about why the administration is trying to obtain gas marketing information from North Slope oil and gas producers. Governor Bill Walker has yet to sign off on the oil companies’ 2016 development plan for Prudhoe Bay.

• 2 Fairbanks teenage girls die in Richardson Highway crash

  Alaska State Troopers say two Fairbanks teenagers have died after a crash on the Richardson Highway.
  Troopers say 17-year-old Carmela Flynn and 17-year-old Theresa Runfola died after the crash Monday afternoon near milepost 210 of the highway. Troopers say responders unsuccessfully attempted lifesaving efforts after the girls’ vehicle was submerged in a nearby river.

• Volunteers collect tons of marine debris from Alaska shores

  Beachcombing is serious business for Chris Pallister, and he needed help sorting the haul this year.Pallister is president of the Gulf of Alaska Keeper, which annually helps clean marine debris off Alaska beaches.

  A troublesome brown bear was shot and severely wounded by a Skagway police officer on Saturday night in the Dyea campground. The injured bear has not been seen after it hobbled into the Taiya River early Sunday morning. But National Park Service officials are warning the public to be alert of a potentially dangerous situation.

• Haines Borough tells some residents to boil water

  The Haines Borough and Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation are telling residents in certain areas of town to boil their water before drinking it. The boil water notice went out Monday evening to residences in these areas: Small Tracts, FAA, Tower Road, and Highland Estates.
  Over the weekend, the borough’s main water supply was blocked, and storage tanks drained so low that some neighborhoods were left with brown water or dry taps.
