Anti-AI Luddites are on the rise in California
Artificial intelligence may be all the rage these days, but you would never know it, given the flurry of anti-AI legislation proposed in Sacramento. The fate of the industry may rely on a fight between two competing California values: the embrace of technological innovation and the government’s insatiable desire to regulate everything to death.
There have been dozens of AI-related bills proposed in California in just the past couple of years. This anti-AI fervor may be puzzling in a state

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA — All teams are different, but Santa Margarita girls soccer coach Craig Bull admits that this year’s Eagles squad is unlike any other he has coached – and by a large margin.
The Eagles are dominated by underclassmen, with seven sophomores and two freshmen in the starting lineup. There was only one senior and one junior who took the opening kick Saturday, so there’s not a lot of experience to lean on.
But the remarkable journey of the Eagles will con

WESTWOOD — With the nation’s eyes on Westwood, with questions swirling about whether Mick Cronin had lost the fanbase and the locker room, the UCLA men’s basketball team authored a response. The Bruins played for their coach.
Amid this week’s judgment, Cronin implored, “Nobody’s got their players back more than me.” He sleeps well at night, he said, because nobody works harder to teach these guys. His players seconded that message.

Rights are just ‘words on a page’ if federal agents can ignore them
The killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti at the hands of ICE agents in Minnesota rightly sparked outrage over the misconduct of federal agents. But these abuses don’t have to lead to death to be grave violations of constitutional rights.
In October, ProPublica published a list of 170 documented cases of American citizens detained by ICE, and what those individuals endured in the process. One such case is that of George Retes, and it serves as a microcosm of some of what the mass deportat
