    Coronavirus state tracker: California passes 5,500 deaths as of June 21
    California has 177,236 confirmed cases of the coronavirus as of June 21, according to totals reported by county public health department websites. Los Angeles County accounts for nearly half the states cases (83,397) and more than half the deaths (3,120). Five other states have more than 100,000 cases: Illinois (136,104), Massachusetts (106,936) New Jersey (168,834), New York (397,272) and Texas (109,581), which also reported the highest number of new cases (8,322).

    It took a year, but trainer Philip D’Amato’s $35,000 investment in February 2019 paid dividends on closing day of Santa Anita’s spring meet on Sunday.

    A fine Father’s Day spent with their 103-year-old dad on ‘The Porch’
    Ralph Freeman’s blue shirt highlighted his crinkled light blue eyes as he smiled behind a mask. The 103-year-old waved to his daughter Janet Bollman 67, and her fiance, Bob Bernstein, 69, who arrived at his assisted living home to wish him a happy Father’s Day on Sunday.
    “That big smile is such a joy,” Bollman said, asking Freeman to remove his mask so others could experience it.
