    LOS ANGELES — With all the electricity of a playoff game, the NBA’s Western and Eastern Conference leaders – and their respective leading men – clashed Friday night at Staples Center in what might have been a preview of the NBA Finals.
    The case of LeBron James vs. Giannis Antetokounmpo tilted in favor of the home team this time, with James rallying his squad from a nine-point, first-half deficit to a playoff-clinching 113-103 victory at the Milwaukee Bucks’ expense.

    Mater Dei’s softball team didn’t let the upset escape this time.
    The Monarchs defeated nationally top-ranked Norco 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the Dave Kops Tournament of Champions in Bullhead City, Ariz. on Friday night, claiming the upset that narrowly eluded them a week ago in Chino Hills.
    Mater Dei lost to the Cougars 5-4 at their showcase on Feb. 27.
    The Monarchs are first team this spring to beat Norco (9-1), the two-time defending CIF-SS Division 1 champion.

    STANFORD – In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 and ease community concerns over the potentially deadly respiratory disease, Stanford University is canceling in-person classes for the final two weeks of the winter quarter, starting Monday.
    The university is also calling off the in-person Admit Weekend event for prospective undergraduates who have been or will be offered admission to Stanford, scheduled for April 23-26.
